I've lived in many places in recent years, and no doubt in my mind that San Diego is my favorite city. It offers perfect weather, friendly people, and tourist attractions than you can shake a fist. One of the biggest attractions is the San Diego Zoo. In the physical size is not the largest zoo in the world but, it holds the record for number of different animals. Better yet is a zoo that takes pride in the elimination of the bars. Watching animals in a cage, my blood turns cold, I would not be behind bars, and neither do the animals.
Author Bill Seaton worked as the kind of public relations Zoo 1960s, and my seven years in captivity is a very personal look at the San Diego Zoo. This is not a serious book is very much humor, Sin But there is a nuance that reveals the love that Bill has for this wonderful and love that the people working at the zoo is for animals.
For 10 years I've been a season pass holder at the zoo. I have no idea how many hours we spent there, the children knew their way at the zoo knew better than the area where we live! San Diego Zoo and Animal Park a few miles from the city should be in the world "must do" list.
Bill Seaton takes us behind the scenes of the San Diego Zoo during the 1960s. This is a delightful book written that allows the reader to join an organization wonderful. High in the mood, we see that life the old saying 'a zoo' is true!
Few people understand just how difficult it is to run a zoo, animals are so cranky is that as human beings. They have unique personalities, some are friendly, some are angry, and some are on the wall. Account has a wonderful story about a duck. This bird of bad temper got along very well with women but not men, if they were men who risked a hierarchy serious if you have about this duck.
Bill also manages to sneak in a recipe. I like this one so I must share with you:
Recipe for Elephant Stew
1 elephant (size med)
2 rabbits (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Brown sauce (lots)
Of Cut elephant into small bite sized pieces. This will take about two months. Add brown gravy to cover. Cook over kerosene fire for about 4 weeks to 462 degrees.
This will serve 3,800 people. If more are expected, two rabbits may be added, but only if necessary as most people finding does not like to do in your stew.
Although the book contains plenty of humor that also reflects the dedication of people working at the zoo. For many, this is not a job, this is a lifestyle. Work and family life merge. These men and women make great sacrifices so that we, the members of the public can enjoy seeing the animals.
My seven years of captivity should be in the world 'read' list, this is the ideal book for people who just want read a few pages at a time. There is a story, is a series of independent vignettes of life.
